From DIY to Science-Backed Training with Jorge

We take the knowledge we have today about training for granted. Not too long ago, it was extremely difficult to learn about training. Our guest today, Jorge Ramos, discusses his journey learning about training and going from training with cement cans to training with legends like Ben Pakulski and Joe Bennet. Jorge is almost 50 but still moves like he is in his 20s, there’s a lot you can learn from him.

Coach Mauro sits down with his friend and colleague from the Dominican Republic to reflect on the shared mentorship program, his story growing up in a baseball-loving setting, and how much of what he learned or used to workout was DIY.

He shares a story of the ingenious way he made workout equipment growing up, and the motivation to seek out knowledge where resources were scarce. Reading magazines was the only way to get access to fitness information when he first started his fitness journey. He learnt a lot from trial and error and had a lot of injuries in the mix without guidance. After a third surgery, he went through rehabilitation to get back into shape and got deeper into the biomechanics of the body.

Jorge met Charles Poliquin while searching for a trainer. With his knowledge and training at the muscle camp, Jorge started to change the culture surrounding the Dominican Republic sports and fitness. The passion for coaching others led to him teaming up with other trainers, where he practiced what he teaches in order to inspire others to start their fitness journey.

The science and art of coaching is seeing the little things especially if they are the wrong things, and fixing them to make the patterns right- relearning the capability of moving.

Jorge believes in relearning the basics and taking control of your movements.  You must approach training with mindfulness and control of everything from your breath, to your heart rate, sympathetic and parasympathetic nerve work. Re-educate your moving patterns and you will start to feel different about everything else. Exercising with intelligence is far better than exercising hard. Why push yourself hard and ignore the basics of moving the body?
